Malia Mare Hotel

Lovely hotel, staff were very friendly and attentive, and made sure we had a great time. Room was clean enough and sheets were very clean, shower was hard to use though as it was very small. We had a small fridge and a small balcony. Breakfast was good if a bit limited. Pool was the best part, brilliant pool bar with a big menu for drinks and food. Sun loungers had cushions which made them so comfortable, and the pool was a good size. Great location, only about 5 minutes from the main strip and only 2 minutes from the old town.

Jet 2 booking September 2024 Greece Malia Mare B&B 3 star Holiday review When looking for a holiday, we decided on Greece and was really looking forward to a nice relaxing break. When we booked this hotel, we thought we had got the right place for us, the rooms looked nice on the advertised pictures (jet 2 website). We booked for a weeks holiday in September. Upon arrival at Malia Mare it soon became apparent that what we had booked wasn't anything like we had viewed on the Internet. The first thing we were informed of was the additional of things within the hotel. Air con was an additional 9 euros per night, and there was an additional cost for the safety box. This was not stated on the Jet 2 room facilities about the hotel. This was something we should have expected, we didn't budget for it. We then made our way to our room, without any assistance, and having to carry our cases up a flight of stairs. It soon became apparent our room and the hotel was nothing like we had seen on the Jet 2 website. Faults in our room -light fittings hanging off the walls with cables exposed -air con unit had holes in it, showing the wires inside -bathroom had a small window in which was open, giving views into the neighbours room -tiles on the floor and walls were cracked with chips missing out of them, leaving sharp edges -shower leaked all over the floor when we used it -dirty old shower mats and towels -no shelf in shower for products -balcony not accessible as table and chairs put on there used all the space -bedding wasn't changed for 5 days -only 8 hangers provided for 2 adults clothing -broken drawers -damaged fridge -black mould in cupboard -only plug socket behind bed was hanging off Hotel faults -staff not helpful -breakfast very poor, not fresh and very dry -dogs and cats running around pool area We went to Greece for a relaxing holiday and it couldn't have been any further from exactly that.We were told we could move rooms for 15 euros per night!!! As a young couple we felt that we had been put under the same umbrella as alot of the young people that go to Greece, for a party holiday. And we feel that's why we were put into the room we were. This totally ruined our holiday and feel we weren't given the holiday we booked. We spoke to the Jet 2 rep the day we came home, as they were only at our hotel twice a week which was the day we left as the other day we was booked on a trip . Only to be informed they couldn't do anything about it as we were leaving. Overall we were very disappointed with not only our hotel and the experience we received, but also the false advertisement from Jet 2 when we were booking our holiday. We wanted to be honest and truthful about our experience just to prepare anyone that may be visiting this hotel in the near future. Yes it's only a 3 star hotel, but it felt more like a 1 star inbetweeners hotel.

Positives - The pool area is very nice, clean, with comfortable sun loungers as well as a shaded seating area. In addition, the pool bar was also very nice, pool bar food was lovely and fairly priced. Hotel location perfect, being only a few minutes walk from the main strip where all the clubs, bars and restaurants are situated. The 2 gentlemen often behind the pool bar were incredibly nice, spoke very good English and were always happy to help. The room was reasonably spaced for 3 people, beds were comfy and room comes with a balcony. Negatives - The bathroom is very poor, the shower was tiny and was not attached to the wall, this accompanied by the cheap shower curtain meant that every time someone had a shower the entire bathroom got flooded. For paying £800+ per person, it was our expectation that we could have a normal shower and not have to hold it by hand over our heads. On top of this our towels were not changed once by the maid despite her coming in a few times to make the beds and just generally tidy. The older lady who is on the reception is completely useless and unhelpful, anytime we asked anything of her she made it seem like it was hard work. Furthermore, when checking in she was blunt and unhelpful, told us our room number and didn’t even direct us leaving us to search the hotel and find the room ourselves. Nor were we offered any help with our baggage. Similarly, the lady who was often behind the pool bar was horrible, same bad attitude as the woman on reception. Completely unhelpful and always had a face like thunder, again made everything u asked seem like hard work. Very strict rules in hotel so be aware you will not be allowed to play any of your own music at poolside or bring any form of food and drink from outside the hotel. We had a few dealings with the woman mentioned previously trying to confiscate our water bottles we had bought from the shop opposing the hotel. Air con not included in room, paid 9 euros per day for air con that just blasted warm air around the room and made us all ill.

Overall the hotel is lovely and clean, and the majority of the staff are lovely. It was just a shame that the woman who I believe may be a part owner was incredibly rude. She was always very blunt and dismissive, and never smiles. On our last day, when our taxi arrived she entered our room and got really angry at us, ordering us out, telling me “give me the key, give me that bath mat, give me that towel” and being very rude and hostile saying we had to get out now. We also had a poor experience with the cleaner, who came in our room when we were all fast asleep and continued to clean around us, very loudly and opening the curtains, we also found her to he very rude. It is a shame they were so hostile, because other than that all the facilities were amazing, food and drinks at the bar were great. Mike the security guard was absolutely amazing, so friendly and he really did his job to a T, cannot thank him enough for everything he did. I would recommend staying here, i would just be cautious of treading on their toes!! The aircon is also not great, in 3 different rooms it was leaking and barely even noticeably on so that was also a down side. €9 a day to waft hot air around the room😔

Amazing hospitality run with lots of love & care this is a beautiful traditional building that should be appreciated if you want luxury then pay more this hotel has everything you can want & more breakfast was excellent with lots of options for the majority of visitors the staff are so friendly & helpful couldn’t ask for more excellent food at the pool and spotless rooms. Would give this hotel, staff, rooms, food, location 10/10 would recommend this hotel don’t believe the negatives just try for yourself. Brilliant family run hotel. They cannot do enough for you. We upgraded our room and it was lovely open plan and very clean. Our kids had 2 other rooms which were basic but it's just a room for sleeping in and getting ready. We had the air-conditioning on for the last 2 nights as the heat was unbelievable. We had a very hot week, very lucky!. The pool area is clean and always plenty of beds even for us,a family of 6. The food was homemade to order and the meatballs were stunning. The family went above and beyond, even with a leaving gift of ice-cream and the gentleman gave us a lucky ceramic pot. I didn't want to leave and I'll definitely be back.
